The process of building InfoCision Stadium, contrary to reports by The Associated Press, is still on schedule.

University of Akron vice president of capital planning and facility management Ted Curtis said the UA will begin site excavation and clearance for the university’s new $55 million stadium in January, as previously planned.

In the meantime, UA still has 10 parcels of land yet to acquire and Curtis said they will have to go through eminent domain procedures with the owners. The university announced they had acquired 12 parcels of land at their board of trustees meeting last Wednesday.

The AP report stated UA had pushed back groundbreaking for the new stadium because the architectural design wasn’t yet complete. While Curtis said the first phase of the drawing is not yet completed, he said that it didn’t push the groundbreaking back.

We’re actually on schedule, Curtis said.

Curtis expects the drawings to be completed by the end of the month.
