“Although the University of Akron men’s basketball team did not receive any respect this season in being snubbed for the NCAA and NIT after a 26-win season – tied for most in Zips history and the best as a Division I team – one player got the respect he deserved.”

Although the University of Akron men’s basketball team did not receive any respect this season in being snubbed for the NCAA and NIT after a 26-win season – tied for most in Zips history and the best as a Division I team – one player got the respect he deserved.
Senior forward Romeo Travis was named to The Associated Press All-American team as an Honorable Mention. He is the first All-American since Eric McLaughlin in 1989 and the 12th in UA history. Travis is the third to gain All-American status as a Division I program.
Other AP honorable mentions from this season are top quality players. Corey Brewer and Taureen Green (Florida), Mike Conley Jr. (Ohio State), Darren Collison (UCLA), Roy Hibbert (Georgetown) and Brandon Rush (Kansas) were also honored as honorable mentions.
Travis – the first MAC Player of the Year in UA history – lead the Zips in scoring (14.9 points per game) and was second in rebounding (5.9).
Travis was a force on the defensive end as well. He led the team in blocked shots (65) this season and is the all-time blocks leader in UA history with 165.
Travis could not be reached for comment.
