Outsiders' Opinion: Which gritty drama is the best?

“People are quick to crown The Sopranos as the best drama on television. Well, if you want to crown them, then crown them. The Sopranos are who you thought they were. However, if you really want to watch the best drama on television, tune in to FX every Tuesday at 10 p.”

People are quick to crown The Sopranos as the best drama on television. Well, if you want to crown them, then crown them. The Sopranos are who you thought they were.

However, if you really want to watch the best drama on television, tune in to FX every Tuesday at 10 p.m. for The Shield.

Cop dramas have been around forever, but it was not until Vic Mackey and his strike team hit the airwaves that you felt like you were there.

The Shield has no qualms about showing things so insane that you will actually cringe and break into a cold sweat.

For instance, at one point in the series, two gang members hold a main character hostage, and if he wants to live, he has to earn his way. I won’t say what he did, but you can kind of guess it was something cable TV hasn’t shown before.

You won’t see that on The Sopranos. They would just whack him and move on.

In The Shield you have no idea when a character will turn on another. It is kind of like watching early ’90s pro wrestling. At any moment, someone could turn heel, or in the case of The Shield, drop a grenade in a partner’s lap to prevent him from snitching.
