The advancement of technology has brought about a new and exciting way to present the University of Akron life to future generations.
The newest edition of UA’s yearbook, the Tel-Buch, will include a 15-minute supplemental DVD of campus activities.
Tel-Buch adviser Art Krummel said it will contain both still photos and video clips of various aspects of campus life, from sporting events to a steel drum band.
This is the first year that the yearbook publishers have offered the service. Editor in chief Jamie Riedinger thinks it is a good and exciting advancement because the DVD is able to capture events better than just a book could.
Alex Reynolds, the videographer, has worked all year to document and highlight key moments at the university.
Videotape of events and activities is shipped to Jostens, the yearbook publishers, Reynolds said. Jostens creates a DVD of the footage, edits it, then ships it back inside the yearbooks.
It offers a glimpse into the lives of the students, Krummel explained. It becomes a historical document for future students to experience UA events.
The Tel-Buch, which gets it name from switching the letters in Buchtel, has been publishing a yearbook continually since the late 1800s, except during a small period in the 1900s, Krummel said.
The yearbook and DVD will be distributed around the first week of October at various locations around campus.
