Women’s Soccer

The University of Akron women’s soccer team grinded out two draws this weekend. The Zips tied both Northern Illinois and Western Michigan 0-0 after two overtimes.

First, on Friday, the Zips were only able to muster two shots on Huskies’ goalkeeper Amy Annala. The Huskies recorded six shots on goal, four on starting goalkeeper Annabelle Hegeman and two on substitute goalkeeper Samara Yurchak.

Yurchak played in the second overtime for the Zips, and played well enough to get the start on Sunday against Western Michigan. Yurchak did not disappoint, stopping all nine shots she faced.

The Zips got shots on goal from four different players in the two games, but none of them managed to score.

The Zips’ record sits at 3-9-4 overall and 0-4-4 against Mid-American Conference opponents.

The Zips will return home Thursday to battle the Central Michigan Chippewas at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field.
