Far from the dazzling lights that illuminate the City of Angels; miles from the yellow cabs and immense skyscrapers that graze the clouds above the Big Apple, lies a thriving and exquisite metropolis of culture, couture and charming entertainment.
Sadly, we live nowhere near that city.
But the former City of Rubber has plenty to offer its chic and attraction-hungry patrons.
And most of those performances happen right in our very own E.J. Thomas Hall.
Rubber City Rock
For a unique class of music lovers, perhaps the second of the Rock the Roo Concert Series will get their blood flowing. Valerie Custer hits the stage at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 3. Custer rocks out to a variety of music genres, including pop, contemporary music and tunes from the ’60s.
She’s played with such bands as The Calling and a Dave Matthews cover band. Check out this gorgeous guitar chick for a rockin’ good time.
At 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 10 and 17, Rock the Roo is back with Jared Campbell and Andy Dolson. Campbell’s music has been featured in previous seasons of The Real World and Dane Cook’s Employee of the Month.
Dolson describes his music as a combination of guitar-driven rock, melodic hooks and reflective lyrics drawing influences from rock, jazz and folk.
Dolson has also spent much of his time assisting in humanitarian relief work for such disasters as Hurricane Katrina.

Sandwiched nicely between these two rock stars are a pair of hysterical comedians who have been regulars on ABC’s Who’s Line is it Anyway? Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood bring their uproarious improvisational comedy to Akron on Oct. 12.
You might need your hearing checked after all the rock and roll and may need your stomach looked at after all the side-splitting laughter, but fear not, you’re in luck!
M.D. on the Rocks
Docs Who Rock is back for another tour on Oct. 13. Docs was started by Michael Gaffney, the vice president of marketing for the United Way.
With the help of physicians city-wide, Docs is a way for the physicians in the area to not only have an artistic venue by which they can raise awareness for the United Way, but an excellent opportunity for these physicians to allow their patients to see them apart from their lab coats and clipboards.
The musical acts must have at least one member who is an area practicing physician.
The host, Dr. Terry Gordon of Akron General Medical Center, chooses a different celebrity persona each year.
Gordon has appeared as Rod Stewart, Austin Powers and yes, Tina Turner. It is absolutely vital that you check out Docs Who Rock.
