Today marks the sixth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The university has received another bomb threat. All attention-grabbing aside, there is a point when even bomb threats cross the line.
We agree that it is when you press the send button.
We’d love to think that the person sending these threats is just trying to keep their friends out of class, giving them more free time to spend with each other. But we’re in college – generally, you don’t have to go to class.
And while these threats may have become nothing more than a joke lately, there is something a bit more serious about receiving a threat about an attack on 9/11.
Cue George Bush and his administration instilling fear into the masses.
The e-mail doesn’t mention UA, or a specific building, only saying that an American university would be hit. It is very similar to bomb threats that Kenyon College received. And how did they respond? They didn’t cancel any classes, but they did thoroughly search every building on their campus.
We think that is what UA should do. Classes should continue as planned while searching every building on campus. Increasing campus security for the day would not be a bad idea, either.
Since the university received this threat Monday, we hope they’ve already done some of these things. In fact, searching all university buildings overnight would’ve been a great idea.
It’s unclear, however, how the university will respond. All we’ve been told is that the administration will contact the students regarding their decisions.
Hopefully Tuesday will be the end of this bomb-threat crusade. It’s safe to say that we can’t decide whether to be annoyed or concerned about them.
