Growing up around sports, I always thought a win was a win, no matter how it came about.
Couple that belief with the thought of breaking my Outsiders losing streak and one would assume I would be on cloud nine after winning the battle of billiards challenge.
This is not the case. I have never experienced a weaker win than this one. I could sit here and say something like, Oh, how I dominated Tony. He didn’t even know what hit him. That wasn’t the case, though.
The truth is that we Outsiders went above and beyond the call of duty and put our lives at risk for you, the reader. Playing billiards sober is something that no one should do without supervision. We could have been killed, but that was a risk we were willing to take.
When you are inebriated, you are relaxed and billiards comes naturally. Playing sober, on the other hand, balls are flying all over the place and God only knows where that stick is going.
You start over-thinking angles, which can lead to bad shots and eventually frustration. Frustration turns into anger.
Anger could lead to another Benoit situation, all because we didn’t kick our livers with firewater.
I may have won this competition on two scratches, but the real winner here is you, the reader. We survived to bring you another challenge next week.
