Bad weather has followed the University of Akron men’s golf team this fall season.

Their ninth-place finish at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Sept. 12 was accompanied by severe weather and it followed them to Manhattan, Kan. Monday and Tuesday for the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at Colbert Hills Golf Club.

The weather put us in a tough spot, head coach Nick Goetze said. But we had to recover. It was worst in the third round.

The Zips finished fourth out of 10 teams Tuesday, shooting a three-round total of 991. The team’s best score was a third-round total of 302.

Senior Colin Clemente finished best for the Zips, in 10th place, shooting consistent rounds of 74-75-74.

Clemente is a steady player for us. He gives the other guys confidence because they know he will shoot a consistent round, Goetze said.

Freshman Drew Davidson finished 16th with a three round total of 227, which was second best for the Zips.

We feel really good about Davidson and how he’s played this season, Goetze said.

Freshman Doug Underwood played in his first collegiate match and finished 44th with a total round score of 240.

The Zips will travel to Loveland, Ohio. Monday and Tuesday for the Xavier Invitational.
