A group of juveniles on bicycles surrounded a 21-year-old man at Exchange and Sumner streets Monday night and robbed him at gunpoint, according to Akron police.

This is the most recent reported attack near campus.

Student Jeffrey Deisez was robbed at gunpoint near East Exchange and Main streets on Sept. 28, according to an Akron police report.

The report said Deisez was grabbed by an individual who then demanded money from him.

When Deisez confronted the suspect, he put an unknown object to his chest and said, Do you really want me to do this, I have a gun.

The suspect is described as a black male between the age of 40 and 50, approximately 6-foot-2 and weighing 250-260 lbs.

In the third incident during Sept. 28, student Kshitij Chandra, was knocked to the ground and beaten near his residence on Kling Street.

The report said Chandra was walking home from campus when he passed three men.

One of the suspects then hit the victim in the right side of the face, the report said. The victim fell to the ground, at which time the suspects hit him and kicked him.

While on the ground, the suspects emptied Chandra’s pockets, according to police reports.

Following the beating, Chandra ran home and called the police.

The report describes his injuries as a bloody and swollen right eye and bleeding lip.

Suspects have been arrested in connection to some of the reported incidents.

Shortly after Monday’s attack, police stopped a group of juveniles riding on bicycles down Main street.

After searching the juveniles, officers reportedly discovered stolen property from the robbery at Exchange and Sumner streets.

The juveniles involved in the cases are not likely to face severe punishment, according to Don Ursetti, public relations representative from the Summit County Juvenile Court.

The severity of the crime offended and the age of the youthful offender is taken into account first, Ursetti said. Particularly if they are of a certain age, Ohio law mandates they be bound over and tried in an adult court just based on their specific age and the severity of the crime.

Ursetti said it would take a certain crime to bind-over a juvenile to an adult court.

If there was a shooting or a murder because of a gun used, then that’s when the bind-over process could be exercised, he said. Obviously they’re (the juveniles on bicycles) not going to go home over it.

Police arrested an Akron man Sept. 19.

Damon Wilson, 19, and a juvenile were arrested shortly after students reported a burglary on Sumner Street. Stolen property was found in their car from the earlier robbery. Officers stopped their car because Wilson had a warrant on file.

Wilson was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine and .38 caliber semi-automatic handgun. The juvenile was found with a .22 caliber revolver.

Wilson was indicted by a grand jury Monday on 11 felony counts, including aggravated burglary with a firearm and two counts of aggravated robbery with a firearm, felonies of the first degree.

Those charges stemmed from two incidents near campus, one on Kling Street on Sept. 18 and one on Sumner Street the following day.

He was also charged with having weapons under disability and trafficking in cocaine.
