There are a number of different Chinese restaurants in the Akron area. The one that stands above the rest is Chin’s Place. Located at 474 W. Market Street, Chin’s offers the best food for the best price.
Jane Snow, Akron Beacon Journal food critic, went as far as to say that Chin’s has the best Cantonese food in Akron. I recommend three dishes.
Cantonese Chicken
This is typical, deep-fried, Chinese-style chicken and is covered with a medium-spiced red Cantonese sauce.
It is served as one of the restaurant’s carry-out specials and comes with fried rice and an egg roll. The carry-out special is a filling portion and will only set you back $5.50.
Sesame Chicken
For the most part, every Chinese restaurant has some variation of sesame chicken, and they all taste good. I like Chin’s sesame chicken because their sesame sauce is sweeter than other restaurants’. This dish is also available as a carry-out special at $5.50.
Shrimp and Ginger Sauce
I stumbled upon this one day while I was in for lunch. I wanted to get something different than my usual so I tried this dish and was quite pleased with the results.
The shrimp is served with a mixture of vegetables and is sautéed in a red, medium-heat, ginger sauce. If you order this dish at lunch, it is served over white rice and only costs $4.25. You can also order the dish with fried rice and an egg roll and will still only cost about $6.
Chin’s Place is definitely a place that can fit into anyone’s budget. Although prices have increased since I started going here (the pepper steak used to cost $2.75 in 2003), it is still better than any other Chinese place in Akron.
So the next time you have a craving for Chinese food, give Chin’s Place a try. You won’t leave hungry, broke or disappointed.
