It’s not too short, or too long. By the end of the month, we’re ready to go back to school. But not until then: the spring semester begins just at the right time.

For a month, we can work or relax or spend time with family and friends. But there’s only so much to do; we get tired of working pretty fast. Other than working, though, there are a lot of other options.

What’s most important about winter break is that it’s a break.

A much needed one.

Between classes and work, we’re ready to have a month to ourselves.

Whatever we do with it.

For some students, it may be hard to find a job for a month. For others, there are summer jobs to return to.

And for the most fortunate, winter break is spent doing nothing.

Nothing but sleeping, eating, and hanging out.

We hope, anyway, that that’s what our break consists of.

That and lots of snow. We’d like to get some sledding, skiing and snowboarding in.

Maybe. But maybe the snow will hold off until next semester and we’ll get a few snow days.

That would be good, too.

Unless the snow held off and then we didn’t get a snow day, after all.

Last year we had one. One. The snow was probably four feet deep.

Instead of getting our hopes up for snow days next semester, we’re just going to enjoy break.

And you should, too.

Take a break from the business of being a college student and make some time to rest.

That’s important.

Too many of us miss out on sleep to study for finals or party, and it’s incredibly important.

We read somewhere that a healthy amount of sleep is between six and eight hours a night.

Over break, we’ll be catching up on ours.
