Early Tuesday morning a black male in a hooded sweatshirt shot at a vending machine delivery man after attempting to rob him.

We’re investigating a robbery of a driver of the vending machine company, UA Police Chief Paul Callahan said.

According to Callahan, the suspect wanted the driver of the vending machine truck to unlock the safe inside his truck. When the driver revealed he did not have the key, the suspect tried to cut the lock off. When the suspect failed to open the safe he got out of the truck and shot at the vehicle.

Callahan said the driver was not injured and told police he did not feel as though the suspect was shooting at him. Police are still looking for the suspect.

Nothing was taken and no one was injured, Callahan said. There were no witnesses at that busy time in the morning.

This is the first time a robbery such as this has happened at the Polsky’s Building.

We do not have any instances of robberies at the Polsky’s Building in the last five years, Callahan said.

The University of Akron Police Department sent out an e-mail informing students of the situation shortly after. The e-mail said officers secured the building and surrounding area following the attempted robbery.
