Researchers at Rutgers University are looking for a way to replace the Internet.
That’s right. With the government’s blessing, they want to scrap all of Al Gore’s meticulous work for an infratstructure devoid of security flaws.
Please leave it alone.
Today, the Internet went down in the Student Union. Without consciously trying to make a scene, I started pacing back and forth around the office – not really sure what was happening.
Then I remembered I stupidly pay $5 a month for Web access on my cell phone. I logged on to see an e-mail saying someone tagged a new photo of me on Facebook.com.
Now I was in real trouble, since cell phones can’t access real sites without a ton of hassle. What if the photo showed me in a compromising state?
My point is this: The Internet works fine. If you’re halfway cautious, you won’t have your identity or passwords thieved.
If there’s even a 1 percent chance the new Web is a bust, I want no part of it.
