Senior continues to roll in recognition, honors, accolades
March 30, 2015
Sina King from The University of Akron women’s basketball team has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as an All-Region nominee with the chance of earning an honor as the Division I Coaches’ All-American Team.
“I’m very happy for Sina to earn this prestigious honor. She has worked extremely hard this past year and a half to get back to where she was before she was sidelined with a blood clot. We are really going to miss her next season and all the little things that she has done for us that sometimes goes unnoticed,” Akron Head Coach Jodi Kest said to the media.
King started in 31 games and, through her performances, has been named as the second Zip to be honored with MAC Player of the Year, earning MAC first team honors and being recognized as MAC Eastern Division Player of the Week four times as well.
King led the conference with an average of 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while also shooting 47 percent from the field and 78.9 percent from the free-throw line. This year, she scored at least 10 points in each game and finished with 16 double-doubles throughout the year, half of which came during conference play.
King is joined by Crystal Bradford (Sr., Central Michigan), Aundrea Gamble (Jr., Arkansas State), Chastity Gooch (Sr., Western Kentucky), Alexis Govan (Sr., Western Kentucky) and Ashia Jones (So., Tennessee at Martin) as the All-Region Four squad.
The committee will select the All-America team from the 52 candidates and will then be announced Saturday, April 4 during the women’s final four games in Tampa, Florida.
