Students are invited to enter The Ben Auburn Award in Cultural Criticism, an annual competition that recognizes students’ work and reviews of cultural criticism.

The Honors College is hosting this award, and are requesting that UA undergraduates submit productions of cultural criticism in various forms.

Popular submissions for this award include reviews, essays, articles, and videos, as well as performances, poetry, sculptures, and works of fiction, all related to the criticism of specific cultural work.

The winner or winners of this scholastic competition will receive $500.

The award pays tribute to the remembrance of Benjamin Auburn, a writer, producer, and performer. Inspired by Auburn’s works, the award seeks to acknowledge students’ works of cultural criticism, encouraging the construction of such work. The winner of the award is expected to display attentive observation and assessment on a critical piece of cultural criticism.

Submission applications are available by contacting the Honors College. Entries are due by April 24 at 5 p.m. to the Honors College Office on campus.

Additionally, on May 1 at 3 p.m. in the Honors Common Room, up to five students with entries in the competition are invited to a symposium with the Honors College. At this event, students present their work of criticism.
