When all is said and done, the group serves no useful purpose at the University of Akron.

Oftentimes, ASG has been a vehicle for students wanting to pad their resume and delude themselves into thinking they have power.

Those involved in ASG, however, think they’re indispensable to the functioning of the university. They’re not.

Unfortunately, being a senator – or even a two-term president, for that matter – is not really going to propel them to the forefront of their peers in the job market.

Power? Are you kidding? That’s all in their heads. Hell, they might have better luck gaining power by using voodoo dolls. But, it’s not likely.

Let’s be realistic. The only people who care about ASG are the people in ASG. I would lay odds that the overwhelming majority of students don’t know what ASG is and, if they do, don’t care about it.

Does the campus really need these student politicians to handle parking appeals? Someone in Parking Services can do so.

Lobbying politicians? I’m all for political activism and engagement. But the university shouldn’t be paying for students to be active and engaged.

Maybe students could just drive to Columbus, talk to legislators and then eat Chipotle and get drunk on their own dime.
