Students who tried to log on to the music Web site Ruckus.com were met with a short message from the closing site.
The closing of the site was news to members of Associated Student Government.
President Kristen Bowman said that she was notified the day the site closed.
They didn’t tell us; we just kind of found it out, Bowman said.
The site offered free music students could download to their computers as an alternative to iTunes or illegal downloading.
Both Bowman and Steve Sedlock, ASG vice-senate chair, spoke of the time students were being prosecuted for downloading music illegally.
One of my friends got a huge fine from downloading music, Bowman said.
As for the Web site, students should not expect another alternative in the near future.
How often do free music players come along? Bowman asked. She also pointed to the fact that they need to look into contracts and all of their details.
We have had a couple individuals in ASG find alternatives, Sedlock said.
The reason for the site’s abrupt closing is unknown.
