Everytime there is a snow storm, streets across from E. Exhange become layered with thick coats of ice that make the roads nearly un-driveable.

For some reason, Akron doesn’t think that sending snow plows out, or having more plows in their arsenal, is a priority.

Instead of keeping side-roads and sidewalks clear, Akron leaves students and families in danger of accidents that could be avoided.

One wouldn’t think a few inches of snow would make the off-campus area a frozen tundra, or barren wasteland, but the city’s inability to have a snow plow do its job before the road is a block of ice proves otherwise.

It’s not like it takes that much time to get a plow, drive down the road, drop salt and then repeat on other needy streets.

Not only are the roads terrible, but the sidewalks are just as bad. Students have to walk in the streets to get to class, or trudge through a foot of snow on the sidewalk.

My hometown, Chardon, gets five-times more snow than Akron, if not more, and is able to keep the roads from become a solid sheet of ice.

How Akron fails to keep streets clear is something I’ll never understand.
