A look at gender violence

Gender violence expert Jackson Katz will speak next week at The University of Akron about why some men abuse women and how sexual violence can be prevented.
Katz will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Quaker Station. Admission is free for students and $10 for faculty, staff and members of the community. Online registration is recommended at uakron.edu/cfs.
The topic of his talk will be “The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help,” which is also the title of his first book.
Katz also wrote “Leading Men: Presidential Campaigns and the Politics of Manhood.” His educational videos include “Tough Guise: Violence, Media, and the Crisis in Masculinity.”
He is co-founder of Mentors in Violence Prevention, a gender violence, bullying and school violence prevention program.
