The University of Akron women’s volleyball team traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14 to participate in the Ameritas Players Challenge.

The Zips had a tough weekend on the road, losing to both Colgate and Denver three sets to zero. In both games, Akron battled and forced multiple ties and even took the lead in some of the sets. Unfortunately, the opposing teams came out victorious from the match and the Zips came up short.

As for highlights of the weekend, senior Mary Delich had the opportunity to play in front of her home crowd where she racked up nine kills against Colgate. On Saturday, Karly Kusan recorded 22 assists and eight digs which left her two digs short of coming up with a double double.

On Tuesday, the Zips are back in action at their home court when they face off against Robert Morris from Pittsburgh 7:00 p.m.

Robert Morris comes into the match against UA with a record of 1-9 as well as on a losing streak of 3 matches. The Colonials bring back six influential  players from last season, three of which are seniors who add a lot of talent and experience to their team. Along with the seniors they have Hannah Hoffman a junior who made over 1,000 assists last year, and sophomore Arden Fisher who tallied 271 kills in her freshman season at RMU.
