The Zips volleyball team will continue in the MAC play this weekend when they travel to Kent State on Friday, Oct. 3, and Ohio University on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Zips look to gain a point in The Wagon Wheel Challenge when they play Kent State.

When asked if the rivalry game against Kent State means anything more to the team, Coach Ron Arenz said, “As much as it is a rival, it is another match. We want to position ourselves for the MAC tournament and try not to put more emotion into one match versus another. We want to try not to invest in our rival. Kent is a well balanced team and they have new additions to the roster, which helps them. Both teams have returning players. OU has a new coaching staff and has earned the reputation as one of the top teams in the conference.” This makes the competition slightly tougher.

Akron began MAC play last weekend. “One-third of the games are played in the beginning weeks of the season. Now, we have two matches a week versus MAC opponents. We can set aside time to focus on the competitors ahead.” Arenz said.

Coach Arenz has been pleased with the girls’ plays, competition and how they have developed in the past couple of matches. He wants fans to come watch the girls play because they represent UA well and they deserve to have a crowd cheering them on each point.

Akron will look forward to a strong showing from Ashley Holder and Karley Kusan who combines for over 300 assists for the team. Additionally, Callie Mack, who has recorded 220 digs, Mary Delich and Amanda Bedell lead the Zips in kills with 120 a piece.
