Student ambassadors are central to the progress of UA; however, 17 current ambassadors are graduating this spring, and other students must step in to fill their spots.

UA’s Student Ambassadors program has been around for more than 25 years. Ambassadors serve at such events as presidential investitures and various alumni or trustee events—they are responsible for learning the names and faces of UA Board of Trustees and presidential cabinet members.

Student ambassadors also serve as guides for visiting dignitaries—state legislators, business and industry leaders, or any other VIPs from institutions of higher education. They greet visitors at football games and participate in community service projects as well.

Students who are interested in applying for the open ambassador positions must have a 3.0 GPA and “be in good standing with UA,” according to UA’s Alumni Association website. A letter of recommendation is required alongside an application.

Informal expectations for prospective ambassadors include exceptional conversational skills, the capacity to serve as a student spokesperson for UA, and dedication to the position.

“From the ambassadors’ perspective, it is great experience to interact and make connections with high-level people and to become comfortable in professional settings,” said Matthew Akers, advisor of UA’s Student Ambassadors program. “I think the ambassador program benefits both UA and the students who are selected to be ambassadors.”
