One of the next Family Days at the Akron Art Museum will include its annual Trick or Treat event on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m at the museum’s 1 South High St. location.

Those who attend will be able to collect trinkets in the galleries as well as participate in art making and sensory activities. There will also be a “monster mash” on the dance floor. 

Amanda Crowe, an associate educator at the museum, said this family-friendly party event helps children build meaningful and cultural experiences to cherish throughout their lives.

“Trick-or-treating at the art museum puts a new spin on works from our permanent collection, giving artists’ play with color, shadows and materials a chance to be explored in a surprising and different context,” Crowe said.

According to Crowe, experiencing art up-close stimulates children’s curiosity and fuels their own creativity as an incentive for families and children to attend.

Attendees will be able to interact with several costumed characters in the gallery as well.

“Pretending and exploring characters through dramatic play is a building block for self-expression and embracing others’ differences,” Crowe said.

Admission is free for museum members and $12 for nonmember children; registration for the event is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Additionally, the museum asks that attendees not wear apparel that covers the face.
