A new program at The University of Akron called Zip Tix will allow students to attend many E.J. Thomas Hall events for free.
According to Beth Lynch, E.J. Thomas Hall press/promotions coordinator, Zip Tix began three years ago with a different program called Broadway Bound. The program was a collaboration whereby student organizations could receive tickets to events around campus.
The program developed into Zip Tix and is now open to all students.
“Every show, whether it be Broadway, Stage Door or Forum, will be available to the students,” Lynch said.
To sign up for the Zip Tix program, a student can go to uaevents.com and click on the Zip Tix icon. After signing up, the student will receive bimonthly email blasts, as Lynch describes them. The emails will include a password that students can take to the box office, along with their student ID, in order to receive their tickets. A student can receive up to two tickets per event.
According to Nancy Logan Barton, marketing manager at E.J. Thomas Hall, a student can only bring one ID when picking up tickets. For instance, if a student brought their own ID to pick up their ticket, as well as tickets for a friend, they would only be able to receive their own tickets.
Even though this program is still in its early phase, 1,000 students have already signed up.
Lynch and Barton both stressed that there are a limited amount of tickets for each event, so students should get their tickets as quickly as possible.
“Of course, there will be some shows that are more popular than others,” Barton said. “It just depends on the students’ interests.”
