Concerns about safety and the tricks that may be waiting beyond neighboring thresholds kept kids from trick-or-treating until last year’s Halloween event for children, Trunk or Treat, was started by the Leggett Area Block Watch and various University organizations.
On Oct. 27, community members will gather their cars in the Leggett Elementary School parking lot, pop their trunks and prepare for some Trunk or Treating.
Trunk or Treat provides a safe trick-or-treating environment for the elementary students. Instead of walking through the streets of Akron at night to get their sweets, the children will walk through the parking lot from trunk to trunk, gathering candy and finally being able the enjoy some Halloween fun.
Participants are asked to arrive by 4:30 p.m. to set up before the event begins at 5 p.m. Last year, there were over 400 eager trick-or-treaters in attendance.
Anyone can participate by emailing Denise Montanari, assistant director for Off-Campus Student Services, at [email protected]. Participants are asked to come in costume with plenty of candy for the students.
