Softball overcomes invading Vikings
April 30, 2015
Tuesday, April 28, the Zips softball team (22-24) played a two game series against Cleveland State and swept the Vikings at home.
In game one, Akron was able to start strong with a three run inning in the first. The Zips scored another three before receiving a response from CSU as they collected four runs in the fifth inning. In the end, the Vikings scored one more run, but the defense of the Zips kept the batters from being a threat. The Zips won with a final score of 6-5.
Junior Erin Seiler threw throughout the game and recorded eight strikeouts. Seiler also set a personal record for wins with 21 victories.
In the second game, Zips were again able to defeat Cleveland State 3-0. All of the Zip’s runs came in the fourth and fifth inning by Kellie Roudabush, Alyssa Nicholas, and Taryn Allmon. Sara Pearson earned her first win from the mound and had five strikeouts and allowed seven walks. Pearson threw for the complete game.
Both UA and CSU had seven hits and one error.
Akron will return this weekend as their season closes on the road with a series against Ohio on May 2 and 3.
