Jason Taylor is the University of Akron’s best kept secret-to the national media atleast.

As a Zip, Taylor doesn’t come from a highly touted college like Ohio Sate or the University of Southern California, but he represents his school better than most of the athletes that come from those schools.

It’s great to see a Zip in the national spotlight, even if most of the people watching have no idea he went to school here.

He is unlike many NFL players in the sense that you know where they spent their college days. Take Brady Quinn for instance, you’d have to be living under a rock to not know he went to Notre Dame.

But with Taylor it’s different. He’s one of us. He doesn’t boast it, but we think he probably cuts UA a nice Alumni donation. His humanitarian track record would make one think that way at least.

Taylor is back in the national spotlight, trying to dance to a Dancing with the Stars championship.

Regardless of if you like the show or not, it’s never a bad thing to have one of your alumni making positive headlines, and actually doing fairly well in the competition.

After having two Zips in the Super Bowl-Chase Blackburn and Dominik Hixon of the New York Giants-UA has been able to generate a little buzz in the sports world that it rarely sees.

As students, we like that.

We’re not a huge school, and we’ll never be a national power house in any sport, except maybe soccer, so when we get the chance to root on a fellow Zip on national TV, it’s a pretty good feeling.
