Green River Ordinance to perform at EJ Thursday

Green River Ordinance is a straightforward, radio-minded pop/rock band shaped by front man Josh Jenkins, bassist Geoff Ice, drummer Denton Hunker and guitarists Josh Wilkerson and Jamey Ice. Formed in Fort Worth, TX, the band recorded its first EP in a church basement and supported its release with a grassroots campaign.

Green River Ordinance, its name derived from a street sign, celebrates its tenth anniversary as a band this fall. The last two years have been successful for their music career. Their first album with Virgin Records, Out of My Hands, was released in Feb. 2009, and garnered comparisons to 1990’s mainstream rock acts such as Sister Hazel, Third Eye Blind and Matchbox 20, as well as contemporaries such as Augustana and The Fray.

The band has also toured with many famous artists, including American Idol winners David Cook and Kris Allen, the Goo Goo Dolls, Collective Soul, Train and Lifehouse.

Out of My Hands peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The single Come On reached No. 17 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 late in 2009; On Your Own reached No. 37 on the same chart in 2010.

Their songs have been played on over 20 TV shows, including The Hills and The Young & The Restless. Their two music videos are also played on MTV and VH1.

When discussing their current success, the band members said the key is to have somewhat decent music and to be benevolent toward people. Even after they achieved multiple milestones in success, they still don’t consider themselves celebrities.

The band is currently on their new tour, donned the Grab Your Dancing Shoes Fall Tour on their Facebook homepage. They have already traveled to 11 cities, including Philadelphia, D.C., New York, Boston and Chicago. Akron is their 12th stop in the tour.

Besides promoting their music, GRO has also launched a charity site to make a difference for those less fortunate. Fans can go to http://www.thehopegros.com/ to select which of the songs they would like to purchase, and select which band member’s charity they would like their money to go toward.
