Republicans show poor character(s)

Judging by RNC’s recent fundraising powerpoint presentation that leaked to politico.com, Republicans are desperate to kill healthcare reform.

The RNC fundraising powerpoint presentation described what Republican parties believe is motivating their donors. The alleged incentives were described as fear, extreme negative feelings toward existing administration, peer pressure and ego.

Shortly following the motivations of Republican donors was the biggest Republican sales pitch: the GOP will rescue the country from socialism and the Evil Empire, which included cartoon portrayals of President Obama as the Joker from Batman, Nancy Pelosi as Cruella De Vil and Harry Reed as Scooby Doo.

There was one additional picture of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed as the couple from the American Gothic painting. How profound.

This is the Republican strategy for raising money and winning elections this year: Fear, socialism, an old American painting from the Great Depression and Scooby-Doo.

In addition, the National Republican Congressonal Committee has named their effort to extinguish healthcare reform Project Code Red: Alerting America to the Democrat Healthcare Takeover. Ironically, the targets of the alert are Democrats. They are making thousands of red alert robotic phone calls to the homes of Democrats, most of whom have already voted in favor of healthcare reform. The calls are meant to pressure Democrats to vote against the reform when it comes up again for a final vote, and describe the reform as a dangerous, out-of-control healthcare spending bill. It ends by urging Democrat voters to call Tom Periello himself before it’s too late and ask him to vote no on Nancy Pelosi’s dangerous healthcare scheme. Not only insulting to Democrats and Scooby-Doo, but also Republicans; the National Republican Congressional Committee has officially embarrassed all of its members.

Suppose Tom Periello listens to these alleged phone calls from suddenly reformed Democrats; do Republicans really think he’s going to be enlightened and change his mind in fear that Republicans will attack him if he votes yes? It is highly doubtful that Tom Periello will come to the realization that if he changes his mind and votes hypocritically, Republicans will just leave him alone and not ever bring up the fact that he voted against his own party.
