And Winter Came- something that is pretty relevant with the turn in weather the last few days.
The Christmas season seems to be upon us.
Downtown Akron has already put up their festive lights and street banners and Christmas commercials are clearly the replacement for all of those political ads.
It might be a bit on the early side for Christmas, but since it seems to be all around, why not just go with it?
And Winter Came is the new album just released by Enya.
Most people know songs off of her album A Day Without Rain.
This holiday season Enya is out there with big Christmas kings like Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole, fighting for a place in Christmas music legend.
And Winter Came was released on Nov. 11 and is a 12 song, 45 minute compilation.
Enya has always created relaxing music perfect for a stress-relieving bubble bath, a calm night with a glass of wine, a good book, a nice fire or even a small intimate gathering of friends for a dinner party.
And Winter Came is no exception to this rule.
The perfect setting for this album would be Christmas eve with close friends and family, laughing and enjoying the company of one another.
This album is refreshing because it does not have the typical overplayed Christmas songs on it.
There is no Jingle Bells, or Sleigh Ride.
Enya went for the more eclectic side of Christmas.
The most well known song on the album is Silent Night.
However, it is not the typical version of Silent Night.
It is called Oíche Chiún, Silent Night in Irish Gaelic.
The lack of common Christmas songs might be a downfall for this CD.
People expect the classics when purchasing Christmas music.
A lot of people would be less interested in a Christmas CD that did not at least have one popular song on the playlist.
If people are buying Christmas CDs without popular songs, they are at least buying Christmas CDs by popular people or groups.
Groups like Manheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra can make extremely popular Christmas CDs with no popular Christmas songs, because they are already known for making great Christmas music.
And Winter Came is a good CD.
It does not sound as much like Christmas as other Christmas music, but it is soothing and relaxing.
Enya might have a tough time becoming one of the Christmas greats with this mix, but it certainly won’t hurt her status as a popular New Age artist.
