Kal Penn and Eric Balfoure were on campus Wednesday to support Barack Obama’s campaign.

It is commonplace in our society for celebrities to take a political stance and back the politician of their choice.

Having Penn and Balfoure backing Obama at the University of Akron is not terrible for his campaign, but presidential hopefuls must hope for the best when celebrities are giving their endorsements.

Afterall, it can be very damaging to a presidential hopefuls’ campaign if the wrong celebrity decides to back them.

Imagine if Courtney Love decided to back Hillary Clinton.

Not only would Love be damaging to Clinton’s campaign, she could potentially ruin it.

For all of the respect that Clinton has earned from some people in this country, it would all go away with the wrong endorsement.

However, a bad endorsement can happen for everyone.

George Bush is going to endorse John McCain, and if you’re a Democrat, that’s great news.

What Bush will do to help McCain’s campaign is up for interpretation, but there’s no question that being endorsed by a president with a very low approval rating will do more bad than good.

Unfortunately for individuals running for president, they can’t choose who endorses them.
